MUDI SACCO Celebrates 35 Years of Providing Financial Services

MUDI SACCO Limited is celebrating its 35th anniversary this year, marking a journey that has significantly improved the social and economic status of thousands of its members.

A key hallmark is the Sacco’s determination to reach out to even the youth society which it considers as a key driver for the continuity of the SACCO.

Founded and registered in 1990 under the cooperatives Societies ACT no 36 of 1998 as Malawi Bureau of Standards SACCO before changing its name to MUDI SACCO in December 2000. The change allowed the SACCO to open its bond with the main objective to reach out to various private companies and government departments within Blantyre in achieving their financial dreams.

Today, it is present even in the other regions and remote corners of southern Malawi. The Sacco’s footprint now covers all the major cities, Mzuzu, Lilongwe, Zomba and Blantyre, serving over 21,000 members.

“We have lived up to our mission of reaching far and wide through inclusive, sustainable, and effective action to transform the lives of our members and establish shared prosperity,” stated the SACCO Chief Executive Officer Mrs. Triza Tsiga Magreta.

Living up to its vision of “To be a Secure, Convenient and Reliable SACCO in Malawi and beyond”, the Sacco’s efforts to undertake a range of strategies have transformed most of its businesses, both in terms of financial and operational dimensions.

“These changes have enabled the Sacco to compete favorably and become one of the most profitable and financially robust Savings and Credit Co-operative,” She said.

“We will continue to innovate, adapt, and evolve to meet their ever-changing needs,” She promised, adding that together, they will build a strong SACCO.

As part of celebration MUDI SACCO has launched a "Tikondwere" 35" Promotion which will run from July to November 2025 and the final draw will be in December 2025, where the highest winner will go away with 5 million kwacha.

During the 2023 MUSCCO AGM, MUDI Sacco was ranked as the third best performing SACCO among both Employee and community based SACCOs. In 2024 MUDI SACCO was ranked the best performing SACCO in the Southern Region of Malawi. The SACCO is licensed by Reserve Bank of Malawi.
